Take cities like Jeddah, Newport, Dubai Creek, or Songdo—coastal hubs whose proximity to the sea heavily influences their identity. It’s easy to focus on the obvious: waterfront views or traditional architectural styles. But does that really capture the soul of the city? True master planning requires more. It invites us to look beyond what is visually striking and ask harder questions:
- What makes this city one of a kind?
- What defines its essence?
- What does its future hold?
Replicating what is familiar or obvious won’t create a true sense of place. Designing with a vision for the city’s potential—that’s where the magic lies.
