Design Concept & Description
Our inaugural collaboration with AOArchitects unveils an innovative and exclusive venture for The Artists in Hong Kong. Renowned for their commitment to quality, The Artists crafts its beers using only the finest local ingredients. Sourcing water from a natural well beneath their farm and barley from nearby producers, they spare no expense to ensure their craft beers are both exceptional and healthful.
The Artist House emerges as a versatile venue dedicated to the immersive exploration of craft beer. Engaging all five senses, visitors can experience the beer-making process hands-on — from touch to taste. It introduces Hong Kong’s first farm-to-table concept, where the in-house aqua farm supplies the bulk of ingredients for both food and beverages, significantly reducing the carbon footprint by minimizing transport distances and slashing water use by 90%. Open to the public, the farm invites guests to engage directly with their food and drink from the ground up.
The architecture of The Artist House is a testament to culture, sustainability, and adaptability, drawing inspiration from Belgian barns, the birthplace of their craft beer. Adapting to Hong Kong’s unique landscape, the design is segmented into slender portals, each embodying one of the senses engaged in The Artists’ co-creation process. Emphasizing eco-friendliness, reclaimed materials are extensively used in walls and furnishings to lessen environmental impact. Strategic placement of mechanical systems aims to lower both operating costs and energy usage. The space’s adaptability is enhanced by movable furniture, bespoke storage solutions, and inventive lighting, allowing it to seamlessly transition to accommodate anything from a solitary visitor to a gathering of fifty.
Our design philosophy was to craft a space that resonates with the warmth and character of the local culture. We achieved this by incorporating wooden patterns inspired by traditional Vietnamese colors and textures, reminiscent of the region’s artisanal furniture materials. The ambiance is carefully curated to harmonize with the natural surroundings, offering guests a sanctuary of relaxation and tranquility. It’s a perfect retreat from the bustling city life, where one can unwind and reconnect with nature’s calm.
