Lensrough Park: A Visionary Journey to Redefining Dreams and Perspectives in Silicon Valley
As we look up at the sky, we often feel a sense of freedom, as if the heavens above symbolize the desire to reach the pinnacle of success. The sky, vast and seemingly out of reach, represents the challenging goals or dreams that only a select few dare to pursue with unwavering determination. This is what makes Silicon Valley unique among cities worldwide — it is a place filled with adventurers striving to reach new heights. These dreamers and innovators are driven by a passion to make the world a better place. What sets them apart is their genuine love for what they do, allowing them to embrace change and risk failure. This relentless pursuit of dreams is what has shaped Silicon Valley into what it is today, and it’s this spirit we aim to capture in creating a new icon for the city.
In our design, the sky and the ground serve as key symbolic elements to represent the concept of dreams. Typically, we view them from a three-dimensional perspective, with the sky above us and the ground beneath our feet. However, through a medium, this perspective can be transformed, offering viewers a completely different experience. Our medium is a collection of spherical crystal lenses that invert the way we see the world. With these lenses, the sky is no longer unreachable — it becomes the ground beneath us, while the earth rises to the sky. In essence, our design symbolizes the idea that the dream is not the end goal but the journey itself, as long as one enjoys pursuing it. In fact, there is no greater achievement than doing what you love. This is the dream and journey we offer to all adventurers.
In summary, our “reversed world,” known as Lensrough Park, features a bridge structure connecting two separate sites, alongside symbolic elements representing celebration, completeness, hope, and dreams. These are embodied by the flowing forms of LED lighting cables, Sky Walk Mobius strips, Iris flowers, and the Orion constellation through illuminating crystal lenses. The once distant sky is now at your feet, and through these lenses, we hope visitors experience something extraordinary — a reflection of dreams and the spirit that has shaped Silicon Valley.
Themed Plan 1 – Orion Constellation to express Dream
The Orion Constellation symbolizes the reward of good fortune following hard work and perseverance. It represents the positive changes that often come with success and the fulfillment of one’s dreams. With this in mind, we designed the landscape to allow the Orion constellation to be viewed from above, serving as a symbol of achieving one’s aspirations and dreams.
Themed Plan 2 – Use of Spherical Crystal Lenses to Reverse Sceneries
The sky, often seen as distant and unattainable, symbolizes the desire to rise to the top, representing goals or dreams that only a few dare to pursue. However, our intention is to challenge this traditional perspective. In our design, the sky becomes the ground, and the dream is no longer seen as a distant destination, but rather as the journey itself — a journey that is fulfilling as long as one loves what they are pursuing. By flipping this perspective, we convey the message that the greatest achievement is to enjoy doing what you love. This is the dream and the journey we offer to all adventurers.
Themed Plan 3 – California native iris flowers for landscape (Hope)
Iris flowers symbolize wisdom, courage, hope, and faith, with each bloom’s color carrying a unique significance. Native Iris plants will re-seed, and when they grow alongside various species, the resulting colors and forms are unpredictable. This natural blend of vibrant hues and shapes will fill the landscape, inspiring adventurers to experience the essence of Silicon Valley—a place where dreamers forge their own paths. In our design, these flowers are a representation of hope.
Themed Plan 4 – Dancing form LED lightings (Celebration)
The LED cables are designed to resemble dancing forms when viewed upside down, symbolizing a celebration of the dream journey. Whether for new startups or established ventures, we offer a tribute to the pursuit of dreams, as the journey itself is what adventurers truly enjoy. Powered by photovoltaic panels installed on the roof, the LED lights will display various colors and patterns, adaptable to different lighting designs.
Themed Plan 5 – Infinite Möbius Strips (Completeness)
It reminds adventurers that the pursuit of their dreams is an endless source of joy and fulfillment. Since the number ‘three’ often symbolizes completeness, we incorporate three identical interconnected strips to enhance the views toward Silicon Valley while also representing the achievement and realization of perfect, completed dreams.
Net Zero – Solar Panel Installation ( p.v. module )
A typical solar panel receives approximately 1000 watts of sunlight per square meter, with most panels having an efficiency rate of around 15-20%. Therefore, a 1 square meter panel would generate about 150-200 watts under optimal sunlight conditions. With a total panel area of 4,240 square meters, the expected energy output will range between 636 kW to 848 kW per day. This energy will be used to power the LED lights throughout the park and the new bridge structure.
Vertical Circulation
Both support structures for the bridge connection provide access to the Sky-walk, Mobius Strips, and Sky Garden via elevators and staircases. The staircases are open, with elevators on each side to facilitate visitor access to the Sky Garden, cafeteria, and restaurant.
